Sarah Dougherty is an Oregon attorney with deep roots in the state and a strong commitment to public service and advocacy. She grew up in Roseburg, Oregon, and spent part of her childhood in Klamath Falls, where she attended Ferguson Elementary School. After high school, Sarah attended Oregon State University before transferring to the University of Oregon, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 2010. Following college, she worked in National Accounts at Roseburg Forest Products before beginning her legal education in 2011 at the University of Oregon School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Sarah began her legal career as a Deputy District Attorney for Curry County. She later returned to Klamath Falls to join the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office, where she served as a Deputy District Attorney for five years. During her time as a prosecutor, Sarah tried numerous cases and played a key role in the creation of Klamath County’s Behavioral Intervention Court, also known as Mental Health Court. Her experience in these roles provided her with extensive courtroom experience and a deep understanding of the criminal justice system from multiple perspectives.
In 2020, Sarah transitioned into private practice, where she now focuses primarily on criminal defense. Her practice emphasizes advocacy for individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges. Sarah is appointed as defense counsel in both Behavioral Intervention Court and Veteran’s Treatment Court, reflecting her continued dedication to problem-solving courts and rehabilitative approaches to justice. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband, Brandon, and their daughter, Parker. She proudly identifies as a “chicken lady” and enjoys life on their small hobby farm with their animals—including two beloved corgis, Hadley and Henry and a golden retriever puppy, named Rosie.
